Hi.. I bought a BEFSR41 router and could not get it to pull an IP address from the dsl modem. The computer communicates with the router fine but no Internet access. So I sent it back and got a replacement..actually 2 because I got 1 for someone else. I get the same thing with both new routers. I can put them in place of a working router (same model) that seems to be configured the same but no luck there either. If you go to the status page on the routers web interface just about every thing there is 0.0.0.0. Won't renew. Any Ideas?

Well...the basics. What you need to do is turn off the modem and the router.

Then, turn the modem on first.....let it get its signal from the ISP....THEN turn the router on.

Have you done it in that order?

In the setup page of the router what it the WAN connection type?
From what I have seen DSL uses PPOE. Then you would have to add your user name and password for the DSL

Many ISPs will not issue a DHCP address until you've registered the router's MAC address with them. Or, with the Linksys routers you can "clone" the working router's MAC address onto the new router. Directions for that are in your manual.

It was the MAC Cloning. I had tried that but did it wrong the first time:-) Thx for the help
