Wierd ram boot problem

Awhile back my laptop wouldn't boot due to bad ram, got new ram everything was fine for about 2 weeks, then one time i went to restart, and it stopped on the windows 2000 boot screen with the progress bar at about 60-70% across. I was told to switch the ram in their seats, i did and it booted. Well the next time i went to restart it did the same thing. I swapped their places (note, that they are where they were when the problem first came up) and it booted fine again. It does this EVERYTIME, now i found that i can simply reseat each stick in it's original place and it still will boot. But something about having to do this everytime i turn the thing on is a hassle lol. Diagnostic programs show both sticks are 100% error free.

The new ram has the exact specs as the old ram...so i don't see what could possibly be doing this, i've even used compressed air to clean the sockets...is it possible the bios has some problem?

Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't hurt to look at your laptop manufacturers web support pages and see if there is an updated bios. Sometimes they even list the changes that are covered with the newer version.

Take one stick out at a time and see if it boots.

I flashed the bios, now it seems to work, guess only time will tell if it's a permanent fix. Thx to both of you.
