Norton doesn't function anymore...

I used System mechanic, and I think I deleted some registry keys, and now my picture viewer in Xp doesnt work. I have to open the image with Paint Shop Pro (cant double clip and view it).

Also my Norton Antivirus (System Works 2003) and Personal Firewall are missing/have damaged parts to it. I tried uninstalling NAV/PFirewall and SystemWorks, but they don't unistall from XP. So I tried in Safe Mode. Still NOTHING.

Can someone help.

AND.... if I go to www.mybootdisks.com, download the XP and re-install it. Will I have to save my wanted files/programs to a disc...? And will re-installing XP fix my problems with picture viewer, etc?

If I re-install XP, is that like writing zeros to the harddrive?

Please, any help is much appreciated.

Peace to you.

uhh.. they uninstall from XP, you just have to goto the control panel --> add/remove programs, then find Norton and goto "change"
From there u can uninstall it

if you are goign to reinstall windows, then yes, you need to find a way to backup your data.

No, see thats the problem. It doesnt, it says "Disk may be write/copy protected" and wont allow me to delete it.

Thats why I wanted to go through Safe Mode, but still does the same thing.
