Stuck in safe mode

I am running XP home edition (clean install) and have not had a bit of trouble with it for over a year. My computer is a Dell 4100. One GHZ clock speed & with 512MB RAM, 40GB hard drive.
Well, I goofed.
Installed nero6 with easy CD Creator still on the machine and ran into a conflict, I think.
I managed to uninstall both programs but am still left stuck in “safe mode” and can’t get out.
I tried several “go-back” dates to no avail. It will not “go-back.
I performed a few tasks such as disk scan and Norton’s Win/Fix etc. to no avail.
I need some help on this one. It is over my head. Any help appreciated.

If you try to boot to safe mode, you should also have an option of
"last know good configuration". Use the arrow keys to highligt that option, and try that.

If not, Dell tech support has always walked my wife through problems. I have taken an oath to never touch her comp again, after jerking an extra hard drive out without uninstalling it first. Kinda had some drivers on it needed to boot up, but Dell got her going again.

Thanks DallasDon (neat handle).

I finally booted to CD and ran the "repair" function. It replaced the whole of XP without a loss of personal programs, settings and files. It did however require the downloading of ALL the upgrades and patches that have been issued since its inception.
