Weird Problem with Search Engines...

For the past few days I have been having a problem with my computer, for some reason I am unable to access search engines. Everything else on the internet work fine but whenever I attempt to access a search engine I get strange 404 errors. I checked for viruses and spyware and found nothing so I have no idea what could be wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time!

Have you tried a different browser? IE Mozilla or Opera? go to www.mozilla.org and download the latest version, see if you can access it through something other than Internet Exploiter.

Try these:

http://216.239.37.99 = Google

http://216.109.118.65 = Yahoo!

http://66.150.2.101 = Dogpile (actaully Infospace . . . since they own Dogpile)

There are some trojans that cause this. I just read about it the other day at WebmasterWorld.

what you have is trojan.Qhost or the remenants of it, even with antivirus I got it!!!

go to sarc.com and look at trojan.qhost it will allow you to download a fix for it, but even if it shows nothing read the infoon chaecking your hosts files. I ended up having to search out all my hosts files and delete a long list of addresses for them, once I did this it worked fine (sites are all google and some others)

Artic unfortunatly it will affect all browsers as it is in the hosts file

Also, by the way, it places host files in weird locations, so don't be surprised if you find this (or find more than one host file).

This was exactly the problem, while the actual trojan.Qhost tool didn't detect the trojan on the system, when I checked my host files myself sure enough, I had been infected!

Thanks everyone for all the help
