DirectX diagnostic test failed

I recently purchased a gigacube 9600pro vid card and black hawk down. I installed the new card removing all traces of the former nvidia driver prior and installed the current driver. I tested it with half life and all is in working order. I installed Black Hawk Down and instead of seeing the introduction, I just got sound and a display of triangles that obviously were display errors of some kind. I ran the DirectX diagnostic tool and all the drivers are listed as registered and they are all current. I ran the two tests on the display tab. All the direct draw tests passed and all of the direct3d tests failed. Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem is? Card? DirectX 9.0b (which is a new installation from the driver cd that came with the card)? AGP slot in mobo?

I'll suggest the 'hardware acceleration' slider again
Other solutions could be installing the latest mobo drivers.

if that doesn't help, then reinstall direct x as it may be the culprit.

I just installed the new VIA 4in1 drivers for my mobo Soyo Kt333 Dragon Lite. It didn't have any effect. The hardware acceleration slider is set to full. Fastwrite is off. SmartGart set to 4xp AGP.

I will try reinstalling DirectX9.0b

I reinstalled DirectX9.0b and there was no change. Still failed the Direct3D test.

When I tried to play a DVD in winDVD4, an error message displayed reads: Create overlay failed. Lower your screen resolution and color depth then try again.

Searching online forums it was suggested that i run dxdiag. I ran dxdiag and got an error message when i ran the Direct3D test saying: Direct3D test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT.

1. Right click on the desktop > PROPERTIES > SETTINGS tab > 256 colors.

2. Open NetMeeting: START > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > COMMUNICATION > NetMeeting

3. Close NetMeeting. If you have Remote Desktop Sharing open, right click on its icon in the system tray and close it.

4. Select the SETTINGS tab, turn back your colors to 16-bit or higher.

I don't know WHY it works, but there's a few bugs in netmeeting that cause incompatibilities with some stuff.
