You *might* need to download a module (drivers) for your USB modem, not sure if Drake 9 /9.2 will auto detect it. If not then that will be the hardest part, but not too difficult

You can set up packet forwarding for ICS fairly simply. There is a great PET over at linuxjunior.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

edit: for the modem. From mandrake's site:
The speedtouch Alcatel USB ASDL modem is reported as working, although you may need to download the drivers. If you cant find them (and they arent in the distro) let me know and ill poke around a bit for you.

but it seems to me it only dials on start up ?
my connection is playing up and desyncs and i have to reconnect using windows.

will i have to reboot for it to reconnect ??????????

o yeh 1 more thing i want to use it it as a server (and webserver) so does the system run without having to put in a password/username. or as i have read set up a auto login

If you have hotsync enabled just go ahead and unplug it and then replug it and it should reinitialize. If not then ill look at it a bit more in depth.

EVERYTHING on the system that starts via init scripts, ie webserver, and ICS, will start without you logging in. All you logging does it log in a user and (if X starts automatically) initiates an X session.

i tryed installing my modem 2day but i didnt get too far without an error

i done this

Uncompress the drivers' tarball by typing :
# tar xvzf speedtouch-1.1.tar.gz

cd into the new directory and type :
# ./configure && make

it all untarred ok but i get this error message on the configure bit

[server@localhost server]$ cd /home/server/speedtouch-1.1/
[server@localhost speedtouch-1.1]$ ./configure && make
creating cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld
./configure: line 584: C: command not found
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH

i really want to get this to work it just keeps putting me down back to windows >(

edit : oo yeh im using mandrake 9.1

type gcc at the command line, you surely need to have gcc installed in order to compile. If it returns command not found do a locate gcc and see if it exists, but is just not in the path. If locate brings up nothing use the package manager to isntall the gcc package off of the CD.

As krohnjw suggests it looks like you have no C compiler installed, which makes building code rather tricky

pico is just an editor. See if you have nano installed, it is a pico clone If not then pick your poison, vi, emacs, gedit, the list goes on. Any editor will work.
