Kids Need help! AMD Processor

Hi,
I am running a P4- 1.5 GHz Processor. I want to build a new computer. I am looking for a good AMD Processor under $100. I saw ATHLON XP 2600+, 2.133GHz , 266FSB Socket-A for $89 . Is it faster than P4 - 1.5 GHz. Please help me. Thanks.

the 2600+ is nice but I would invest in the Barton line.
The 2500+ is a nice CPU, and it runs the same if not a bit better then the 2600+ at some apps.

In the end they are both good, and you have to decide which to get based on the price of mobo, ram and CPU.

My reccomendation for a good AMD CPU is a "Barton" 2500. They are fast and stable, even after some Over Clocking. I am running 2 machines that both have a barton, and have had no problems. A good place to find a good price on AMD CPU's is www.newegg.com They have helped me out alot

Truckie

PS: And yes a "Barton" is faster than the P4 you are using.

I dissagree. The 2.6 imo would easily beat it in benchmarks and especially if its a 2.6C.

There are THREE different XP2600 processors out right now.
I'll list them in ascending order of "newness".

1. XP2600 Thoroughbred @ 266mhz FSB & 2133 mhz clock speed.
2. XP2600 Thoroughbred @ 333mhz FSB & 2083 mhz clock speed.
3. XP2600 BARTON @ 333mhz FSB & 1916 mhz clock speed.

The 2600 Barton is a very nice processor. It holds an advantage over the thoroughbred core processors with it's 512K L2 Cache vs. 256K.

Darthgary, I think you misstyped a word.

"and especially if it's a 2.6c"

Especially should be replaced with "only"

The only chance I would give the 2.66B is against the Barton 2600, as AMD is getting a little off with their ratings for Bartons, but other then that, the Tbred 2600 spanks the 2.66B

but to get back to your question, obviously it is faster than yours since they are arguing over a 2.6 and you have a 1.5. even without taking the amd advantage into consideration, it is still running over 2.0 which is faster than yours.
