Motherboard: Gigabyte
CPU: AMD (yep, I'm cheap )
Vid card: no preferance on manufacturer but I like Nvidia chipsets
CD: as long as it's cheap and it works
DVD: don't have one
floppy: the kind at the store (they NEVER have selection for floppy drives)
hard drives: whatever costs less
sound card: Creative
PSU: brand doesn't matter; 400W is 400W
RAM: whatever costs the least (I don't overclock)

In most cases, it's the company with the lowest costs that I choose. Some things have pretty much no effect on system abilities; the only thing that matters if is they work. CD and hard drives are good examples of this. I've had lots of CD drives; some of them wear out fast, some of them don't. The brand name ones don't just break down after half a year but I'm too cheap to fork over an extra 30% for a brand name. As for hard drives, I have never had a problem with hard drives failing or being junk so brand really doesn't matter. A week ago I got a new 120gb hdd in a Cicero box but the drive itself says Maxtor on it. Rather strange situation but the thing works so there's no problem; the drive cost $100 upfront but it has a $40 rebate so it'll only cost me $60 in the end . $60 for a 120gb is an awesome deal compared to the other brand name drives like Wester Digital that cost more than double.

  • MotherBoards: Abit
  • Mice: Logitech Optical Trackballs
  • Speakers: Logitech (used to be Altec Lansing, but they merged with Labtech and the Q went down)
  • Video:ATI (I like the Sapphire cards)
  • CD-RW: LiteOn
  • DVD-ROM: LiteOn
  • Keyboards: Microsoft Natural Elite (love split keyboards)

  • Power Supply: Antec
  • NIC's: Linksys

I purchase the products that have the best track record with me, both in reliability and quality. The Phillips Edge series of sound cards are not the best known, but seem to have the best sound quality/cost ratio and don't have the bugs that Soundblasters have had over time. I bought my first one after reading a review in Maximum PC magazine.
