Network crashes. roomates fault??

ok, I've posted about my girlfriends network before but now we have new problems. I built her a new system and got the internet up and running on her network and it worked great all of a sudden tonight at about 12:15 I get a phone call from her. She tells me that she cant get access to the internet(again) this time i know she isnt using kazaa or any other P2P program. BUT her roomate does and her roomate is on the "master" port. has anyone ever heard of kazaa bringing down a network like this. They are using this router. Which I've heard can be screwy. I dont know if the roomate has lost internet connection. I'll know tomorrow. what do you guys think it is???

edit: just thought I'd let you know i was over there till about 11 and the internet was working fine I was reading some threads in here and doing some general browsing and I wasnt having any kind of trouble at all. She hadnt touched the computer since i had left either.

don't be sayin' that router is screwy..that's the one I bought!

actually, I've had to reset it to get our connection back online a couple of times. It was extermely easy to set up for a networking n00b like myself, but not without its faults.

Good luck.

yea it is extremely easy to setup which is why I told the girls to get it this way they can set it up themselves if they have to but it seems like the have to reset it alot. Like I said though i'll know something more tomorrow. Personally I think that its kazaa reseting the router some how.

What OS? did you get her to try to "release and renew" the IP?

win9x--> run winipcfg and use the drop down menu to show the nic..then do "release" and then "renew"

XP....I think you have to do it from dos prompt.

ipconfig /release then ipconfig/renew

Yes, Kazza will take down a network. Particularly if they have sharing enabled. It will saturate your upload and slow everything down below a crawl.
