Outdoors Advanced Driver Disabling....

Ok i have a problem.

I installed windows using my hd attached to an ide to sata adaptor. It came with my mobo so i figured i'd use it Bad idea. I noticed after the install the the drive was getting time outs do to it not responding that were showing up in the event log. I didnt think much of it until i ran check disk and i had errors on my drive I then turned off my computer and switched over to the regular ide cable.

I turned the computer back on and went into the bios and disabled the sata controller. I restarted and as soon as i saw the windows loading screen i got a bsod and "page error in none paged area". I restarted and for the hell of it i enabled the sata controller again. To my surprise windows loaded. I then unistalled the sata controller and then scanned my drive and deleted all the driver files for that controller. I restarted and disabled the controller in bios. Restarted and windows loaded up fine with the controller disabled.

However even though i dont have any of the controller's driver files on my hard drive i get this error in the event log everytime i restart:

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
SiWinAcc " .

SiWinAcc was one of the driver files for the controller that i deleted. That file is no where on my hd yet i get that error on startup. The only thing that i can think of is that there is an ini file that controlls the files that load at boot that still has an entry to load this non-existant file. Am i right on that? If i am where is this file at so i can edit the entry out? If im wrong how do i fix this problem and keep it from filling up my logs on every reboot?

Thanks for any info!!

Sam

I would guess it's in your boot.ini file. Open it up in notepad and see if there are any references to it.

I'd back it up before making any changes!

I am guessing it is windows XP?

This looks like the XP version of the old Win9x error, when we used to get the pauses on the boot screens and it would say something like "A device listed in your config.sys file or registry can not be found" etc etc..or something to that effect.

Usually it had to do with microsoft networking....or sometimes when you installed, then uninstalled a component....but the fix was usually to search thru the registry and then find and delete the entries that listed the same file.

I think if I were you I would search thru the registry for that entry...and also thru the boot.ini and other boot files. (showing my ignorance of xp here, lol) (Im not even sure if XP uses config.sys etc anymore, lol)

But it looks like there is an entry somewhere for that file or device but of course you have uninstalled the device etc...so now you need to get rid of the entry.
