Half-Life Problem

Hey all again, haven't been here in awhile since college started but heres a problem i've come back to good ol' TechIMO to ask.

Specs:
Windows XP PRO
Nvidia GF2 GTS 64MB
XP 1800+
60GB HD

I recently let my friend use my comp and he installed all the latest patches from windowsupdate and now i cant play HL at all. How the problem looks is when I open up HL and i try to load a saved game it goes to the loading screen, all black and says loading in the middle. Then i get a windows error thing, it asks to send ina error report but i just click dont send. I've always ran HL in OpenGL at 1024 by 768 @ 75HZ. I'm guessing it could be a new nvidia det driver that might have been able to have caused the problem. I was thinking og removing some hot fixes but as i tried to, a pop up came up and said that it was linked to many progams and then i hesitated to remove any hotfixes. Has anyone ever had this problem or in anyway know how to fix it, it would be much appreciated.

Try runnig with D3D. If it works get OpenGL or just use D3D.

It does not work for any of those setting, i get an error right at the loading screen after a shot amount of time.

Does anyone know? The error is labled "Half Life Launcher error" but i cant figure out whats causing it, i've aready uninstalled and reinstalled hl and i still get the same problem. i'm pretty sure its the new HOTfixes but i dont know how to handle this one.

Maybe some drivers or patches for HL would work??

Well maybe he installed the microsoft hacked nvidia drivers? They don't have support for open gl I believe. Atleast I couldn't play a game with them.
Try here www.nvidia.com , Also try updating half life.

Just like the one I had long time ago. I can't recall about what I just did, but I fixed it by loading new Opengl and it worked.

ps: they say error but they never say why is it error

How did you fix OpenGL?

Did the nvidia drivers not work? If that fails, uninstall half life, backing up the saved games of coarse, then reinstall and update it.

I downloaded from the internet if im not mistaken. Or was that for a different game...can't remember <-- im not confused though I just cant find the correct smiley! for this mess.
