Home Networking via Crossover Cable

I would like to connect my laptop to my home computer. I've got network adapters on each as well as a crossover cable. My problem is I don't know how to set the software up.
I have XP on my home computer and ME on my laptop. Any suggestions? I have ran home networking wizard and it did nothing.

Thanks for the link. Checked it out and did everything it said. Still no luck. It was mostly for 95 & 98 machines. I've ran networking wizard on both computers numerous times. No luck. I followed the directions on the link numerous times. No luck. Any other suggestions?

OK, on the computer thats hosting the internet connection, goto the properties for your internet connection and make sure "Share this connection" is checked.

On the ME machine, make sure the TCP/IP protocol is setup to automatically receieve an IP address.

TCP/IP is setup to automatically receive an IP address on the ME machine. Not sure how to share the internet service on the XP service. I can find the service but I can't find the box to check. Also, I primarily just want to hook the two computers together, not necessarily allow the 2nd computer to access the internet through the 1st. Thanks

ah ok,
Well then the main thing you need to look at is what work group they're in

This can be found in windowS XP by right clicking on my computer --> properties --> Computer name

In ME I think I cant exactly remember where to find the workgroup, check in network nieghborhood properites or my computer properties.

Then you need to make sure File and Print sharing is enabled on each connection

Also, make sure you don't have any spaces in your ME computer name...I don't think XP recognizes them. Or is it vice versa?
Hmm...I just remember reading something about that on another thread.

Both names are one word. No spaces. Thanks.

Both work groups are also the same. I have pretty much decided to just use the Direct Cable connection. I hooked it up to both computers and got it going in under 10 min. Thanks anyway.
