Getting a Network cabled and wireless
My neighborg and I have a shared network on his house, we have internet connection shared with a linksys 4 port router, Im getting a new room and I dont want to mess the ceiling to get a cable from the router to the new room, Is there a way to have a wireless gadget connected to the computer and the router to get my net connection with him, I mainly surf the net and play some games online, and of course post here in Techimo .
My system
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
AMD Barton 2500
ATI 9500
512 MB Ram

How close is your neighbor? You could just get a wireless router or attach a WAP to his router, then put a wireless card in your computer.
Neighborg? Is that like a neighbor who's been assimilated? |

if you all ready have a wired network, there are two items you need
one is the wireless network card, and a wireless access point to create a wireless network
what is the model number of the linksys router?
also what distance are we looking at for the wireless?

Im looking to spend not more than 130-160 dlls, looks like the best bet its getting G, the new standard and the difference in $$$ is not much... and can be used with B...
But my main question will the signal get trought 3 concrete walls?
I saw the pci card at 65 bucks, and the router or access point have the same price around 105. both of them are linksys and have a rebate of 10 bucks on Amazon and Buy.Com...
Checked the newegg site has the card cheaper but with shipping it gets to 65... mainly its the same deal..
If anyone get a better deal or hardware please advise me... I will buy all this next friday is payday....

You won't get an answer on the walls question. If you do, it's BS. Nobody can give you a definitive answer on that question. All enviroment variables are different when using microwave LAN hardware. Radio quality, receive sensitivity, power output and that is just the radio side of it. The exact same house and equipment may yield different results when surveyed. It may work for you, at significantly slower speeds if you do get an association through three concrete walls or it might not. Depends on alot of things. Test and see. I'd get hardware with a decent return policy if your worried about it.
