booting from CDROM IBM thinkpad 600e

I have a problem with booting from the CDROM with an IBM thinkpad 600e. I can change the bios setting to boot from the CDROM and upon bootup it shows a diagram telling me (what seems) to insert a disk and press"F1" when i press F1 an error message shows saying "I9990305" Which means something like:not a usable boot device.........I tried another CDrom from another IBM 600e and still the same problem......i can boot from a floppy disk and the H/D just not the CDROM. What i am trying to do is boot from a WIN98 CD and reload windows on top of windows to attempt to fix a Explorer.exe prob. But if that does not work ill need to boot from the CDROM anyway to reload windows......... sence the laptop cannot have both drives at the same time its either just the floppy or just the CDROM......anyone with any information please help!!! Thank you.

Are you sure that the CD you are using is bootable?

wolf, the internet repair tool works with iexplore.exe not explorer.exe, they are not the same program

blazerhair, you may be able to reload windows without the need for a cd

boot with a floppy

a properly installed OEM load of windows 98 creates a folder in the windows directory called options

the path will be c:\windows\options\cabs

you can run setup from this folder and reinstall windows

your path for dos will be c:\windows\options\cabs\setup.exe

MOST oem's builders don't deviate from this as it will cause problems with other ms OEM software

good luck and welcome to TechIMO!
