problem with dvd sound

my friend has a liteon 163d dvd rom connected to a creative labs dxr3 card and creative labs sound. when he plays dvds, everytime, the sound will get unsynched with the pic, and the picture sometimes jumps a little... any suggestions?
running win 98

Try running it without the accelerator card. What kind of video card does he have? He may not need the accelerator card. I've run DVDs on P2-233 w/Rage graphics card that had a built in hardware accelerator. The software might find the hardware accelerator in the video card.
