Outdoors Emachine powers but no boot

I am new to the forum but you guys have the best posts on many issues. I have an Emachine W1500, WinXP home,1600AMD processor, 128MB, 40 MB hard drive. It has CDRW, and a cable modem attached via USB. When it was 3 months old I would push the power button but it would not boot, just the fans would run. If I unplugged the power cord and repluged and tried again it would come on. It only did this a few times. Now it is over a year and here we go again but for good. As is starting going out the "white emachine screen" would come up with lines in the bottom then power off. The key board will not light up. The monitor is fine, I checked it. I tried a new outlet, nothing. I can't figure this out. Please help, before I hire a tech person and pay a fortune.

Thanks

Hi,
did you try to reset the CMOS? There is a jumper on the motherboard that should reset it for you, or try removing the battery on the motherboard and let it sit for like 30-45mins... then put the battery back in and try to turn it on.
hope it helps,
paul
p.s. welcome to techimo.com!
