Server Recommendation

Hi,

I want to network 13 Pentium II, 266MHz. The machines will just be for surfing the net. The set up will be a sort of cybercafe. The issue is that I have one Intel Celeron 800MHz that I could like to use as a server and also a Linksys router that can elminate the need for a server. The Linksys router incorporates DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), DNS, Firewall, and Internet connection sharing. It also features VOIP telephone call powered by Net2phone. I was told that the router is more problem free than a server.

Please which one is advisable to use, the Intel Celeron 800MHz or Linksys router and why?

Thanks in advance,
Ezecom

You may also wish to consider the addition some hardware or software to control bandwidth each individual client. The worst thing that can happen is for one pc to utilize a large amount of bandwidth at the expense of the other clients.

The benefit of the router is you don't have to have a dedicated machine (one that is on all of the time) as a server. Routers are cheap and reliable. If your server dies you would be down for a while where if for some reason the router bit the dust, its simple to replace. For what you describe above, the router would be my choice.
