How do you sort large amounts of photos?

I didn't know where else to put this.

I have made loads of photos with my digital camera, and I would like to sort them and organise them somehow.

How would/do you sort large amounts of images, do you use any software or standard windows features?

(I'm using Win XP).

You might have to be a bit more specific on how do you mean sort?

There are a lot of ways. None of them I know to be "automatic." You can set up your mouse to SEND them to another folder. You can use click and drag.

You may get an idea on how to sort them by how I sort them.

I just made a folder and named it Beemer's Photo Album. Created categorical folders on the fly if I needed too as I brought in pictures. If I was short on time and needed to get the pictures off the flash card I would put them into the, "To Do" folder.

Cheers!

Thanks Beemer, I currently hav a similar set up as you. I've heard of software that can help you organise large amounts of images, so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them.

I'm seeing this in stores everywhere lately. I have never seen it in operation so I can't tell you the benefits.

For editing large amounts of pictures off of a CF card, I recorded a Photoshop Action that will 800X600, bevel and emboss & Save a picture without being prompted.

I then use the Auto Batchfile of Photoshop with the same action and instead of editing separately, 40 pictures, the Auto Batchfile uses the action, (which includes a Save) and it takes about 1 minute to 800X600, bevel and emboss & save 40 pic's to my specified folder.

Cheers!

Didn't your camera software include an album? Mine did. I also got that type of software with my printer and scanner. Try some of the share ware or free ware sights.

The camera contains software to make a photo album, but this can only be done on the camera, while the photos are on the SD Card. I'll have a look at the site.

Thanks for the info and links.

Lol are you all nuts? ACDSee is the best for sorting photo’s. It’s extremely fast, has thumbnails, and I’ve used it without any problem whatsoever. You need to try it, need it or not.
