radeon 9600 pro and tv-out

I know there are several threads about tv-out problems but I haven't found any with the same .

Anyway I have a S-VHS cable plugged to my tv (scart). And my computer doesn't detect the tv on the other end. Yes I could use force detection but i can't get picture on the tv. If I could get my computer to find the tv I can do the rest.

This cable works. It worked from my old Geforce 2 MX card and it works from my other computers older Ati card.

Maybe it's a driver issue? Should I have HIS drivers installed if I have a HIS card? In my opinion catalyst drivers should work just fine. + installing Hydravision.

Well anyway maybe it's the drivers? Or my settings.

My goal is to be able to send let's say WMP to monitor 2 (make it full screen) and watch a movie so that I can still surf the web on my computer and someone can watch a dvd or avi file...
This worked just fine with my old Geforce 2 card. I haven't used ati cards tv-outs before so that's why I'm having problems.

Thanks.

The card is set to the TV standard your TV set expects to get? Check the TV properties in the ATi control panel are the right way round!
Then, TV is detected ONLY IF the TV is connected and turned on when the computer boots - and also, ONLY IF the TV set has an electrically correct implementation of the SVideo port. For all other cases, the latest ATi drivers can be forced to activate the TV output.

With that sorted, you want to use the "Theater Mode" setting to send any kind of video overlay to the TV in fullscreen style.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I did all that and I checked what the tv supports. Well I can force detect it but it doesn't find it on it's own. Well In my opinion the standard PAL setting was correct but to be sure I tested some others. With the latest drivers shouldn't it be possible to press that arrow down on the top left corner of my application and send that screen to monitor x. Well I have only one monitor listed there. I really don't know what i'm doing wrong. Maybe the connector on my card is faulty? Sometimes if I reconnect the cable and boot I don't get any picture at all on my monitor.

Well I'll go check on my second computer still what kind of PAL format that one has set there.

Thanks

You can have dual screen support enabled, running the TV as a secondary monitor, OR clone the main display on the TV, OR use the TV as a fullscreen mirror of any media overlay running on the primary monitor. You choose.

Where do I enable dual screen? What drivers would most likely work with my ati radeon 9600 pro HIS Excalibur?
Most likely the one on the HIS homepage but they seem older and have less options even for tv-out stuff...

Well anyway I'm stuck I asked my friend to try he has a identical card to mine and let's see if he can get it to work.
I'm starting to think there is something wrong with my card...

It's fixed to some degree now. i don't know exactly what was wrong but I get picture now and that's fine. I have flickering and I've tried many things to remove it.

I have a 50 Hz tv and it has 2 scart slots and supports all the formats that I had available under the displays tab. Changing them didn't change much .

I still can't minimize the screen so I could watch a movie and still continue surfing but I'll get that to work later. Flickering gives me a headache. I tried to put that flickering removal bar to the max but that didn't help much if anything.

How high resolutions should I run on my tv? and what colour depth?

50 Hz TV is best run in 800x600. For full screen movie play on the TV, activate the so called "Theater Mode" (in Display Properties - Advanced - Overlay).

Oh, and 50 Hz WILL flicker. And of course, it's interlaced, so small horizontal detail WILL flicker even more. This is inherent to how TV works, not the graphics card's fault.

Ok thanks I'll try to and see what happens. Any Ideas on how to set it up so that I can minimize an aplication and work on my computer normally and someone can watch the movie on the tv?
I don't need to see the movie on my monitor screen only on the tv. It works with nvidia. Also it should be possible to use hypervision to send aplication to monitor 2 (tv). This aplication would then dissapear from my desktop and appear full screen on the other monitor. Well I am of to a good start. Learning to use these ATI settings .. Why is it that just about everyone has problems with these?

Oh an other thing. If I can't detect my secondary monitor (tv) is it even possible to just see the picture on the tv? Using force detection...

Well if you have any ideas i would appreciate it.

Oh one more question does colour depth make any difference? should I use 16 bit or 32 bit or 8 bit? I don't really care what the actual desktop looks like on the tv just that the movies would be as good quality as possible.

Just give it the maximum color depth.
