What the....

This problem pretty much has me saying that.

Well, I had the bright idea of reformatting my PC to fix some registry problems (yeah, I try to take the easy way out). After getting XP reinstalled I had troubles with the NIC, but after putting it in one of the slots it works fine. The reason for the installing one card at a time was to hopefully get them all working without a problem. I move on to the soundcard but no matter what slot it goes in (except for the one beside the video card, the cooler is too "tall") the PC dosent detect it, either in the post screen or Windows. Lo and behold I put the soundcard into that one slot that I got the NIC to work in and it works. This has me puzzled to no end and frustrated to the point where its on its way to a scrap pile. Could the board be dying?

It could be a IRQ conflict problem.
Have you looked in device manager to see what XP reports on the soundcard?
BTW, alot of mobo's do not allow the use of the PCI slot directly next to the AGP.

iNeb, tried that.

Woodbutcher, what would I be looking for, the IRQ setting of the soundcard?
