mandrake 9.2/radeon 9600 problem

i just recently tried installing mandrake 9.2 on my basement computer and i got it installed and everything, then when i got to the configuration right after the installtion, i went into the gfx section i didnt change anything and just hit test, and the screen went black, then came back on and said there was an error. i changed the monitor and gfx card settings a bunch of different things and it still would do exact same thing. after a while of trying different settings and testing, it would just give me an error without the screen going black saying "could not determine the screen layout".

I got a radeon 9600 with a Dell M991 monitor

Seems like I remember a little bug. Login as root on init 3 and type XFdrake, hit enter. go throught the config for your graphics and do not test the setup.

Then type startx and hit enter. You may need to re-boot. I can't remember. just try startx first.

Hey generallee5686, what did you have to do to get your graphics working? I have a 9800, but I'm guessing that the process is similar. Thanks in advance.

You can download and install the latest version of the ATI drivers from ati.com. Then you'll get 3d acceleration.
