broken EL wire maybe WTB

ok, so i wired some EL wire under keys of my keyboard... in doing so, the black wire came out of its soldering (stupid MADE IN CHINA not soldered good.....) anyway, i tried to figure out where the wire should connect to, but it doesnt make sense. it appears that it was just one wire coming out of the glowy (for lack of better words) part, and had the positive and negative both soldered to it... however, just touching the wire there would not make it work..

is this a lost cause and should i buy a new set and redo it all? or can this be fixed?

if i need to buy a new one, anyone selling some EL wire? (preferebly blue or green, and bright)

From my understanding EL wire is kind of like coaxial cable.. In that it has speacial coated wire thru the centre, and then a "wire mesh" around that, and then insulation around the outside.

I think the +ve goes to the centre wire, and the -ve goes to the "wire mesh". Try to carefully strip back the insulation, should give ya some room to solder the broken wire onto the wire mesh with...
