where are you in the setup? Is this RIGHT at the beginning?

How do you have your drive setup? Is it on cable select or set as master?
I've seen it throw a fit when the HD is set on cable select before.

I tend to agree with vass. Check your jumpers. cable select is generally a no-no.

shae,
Is this a machine you built or a "packaged" computer, i.e., Dell. Gateway, Compaq, etc.? Have you never been inside an open box before?

I have seen RH choke on a partition magic partition. Let the red hat installer do the partitioning.

Open your comp and look at the back of the hard drive where the ribbon and power plug in. You will see one or more small jumpers. it will tell you above the jumpers where to put them for Master, Slave, and Cable Select. You can probably get detailed instructions at the HDD manufacturers website.

It also could be a bad ISO file or damaged since most installing errors that occur are related to this

Probably not. True for most CD-ROM's but he'll probably either have to be able to see the top of the drive for the pic or try to determine what hdd model he has and get the info off the manufacturer's website. And if he's not comfortable opening his case and doing some of these things then he has a problem.
EDIT:
Try getting aida32 or Belarc Advisor and either one should tell you which drive you have. Then you can take that info the manufacturer's website for jumper config.

I don't know what model HDD he has, but all I use is Maxtor and the jumper schematic is on the HDD. And it's right above the jumpers on top.
