HP DJ400 number of copies greyed out??

I did some work for a lady the other day. Then she asked if I coud look at her printer...well, its a walmart HP Pavilion with W98.

HP deskjet 400 printer.

The problem is that she prints out schedules and stuff and she has to do it one copy at a time cuz where it says "number of copies" (or whatever, lol) it is greyed out.

First she asked how she could print several copies..so I am thinking she is dense, so I say "oh, thats easy" and I was gonna show her how to change the setting to 4 copies or 6 or whatever...but I got there and it was GREYED OUT. lol.

So I looked in her "printers" folder and it was just listed as an 'HP Deskjet"..as opposed to a deskjet 400....so I fugred that was it..that it was using a basic driver that didnt have the functionality to do multiple copies.

So I updated the driver just using the windows driver...it had the driver for a deskjet 400..so i updated to that driver....but it is still greyed out! lol.

Now she calls me today saying she bought a new cartridge but it still says it is out of ink, lol. I know she always changes her own cartridges so she changed it right etc...lol..so hopefully she is overlooking something simple there...but I am more curious about the number of copies thing.

The driver shown at HP website is from 9-15-98, lol http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwar...etype=software so its not exactly hot of the press either.

Should I try the driver from HP's site?

Should I maybe uninstall the printer then install it again??

Any thoughts?? Thanks, JP

Depends on how much work you wanna put into it...

I'd uninstall and reinstall HP's latest drivers for that particular printer. But I'd also probably go into the registry and remove all traces of: HP, Deskjet, Hewlett-Packard and the like; before reinstalling those drivers...

If that did not work, I'd probably just reinstall Win98 over itself, or just do a full reinstall.
