ACPI error in Windows XP, HELP!!

My friend recently purchased a new HD (WD Caviar 80GB) I partitioned the drive, Formated NTFS, Installed WinXP, and proceeded to download and install all updates including SP1. Continuing, when I installed some games, the computer either spontaniously restarts or freezes.

The error shown when this happens is ACPI error (found in the computer management event viewer). error message is "AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0x71), which lies in the 0x70-0x71 protected address range. This could lead to system instablity."

I have run every scan disk, surface scan, virus scan, and HD utility (from WD) that I can think of or find.

AMD Duron 950
Spacewalker mobo w/ via chipset
Phoenix Bios
250W PS
768 MB PC133 Ram
HDD 80GB WD Caviar (new) 7200RPM 8MB Cache
HDD 40GB IBM (old) 7200RPM 8MB Cache
Please ask if I missed anything.

Please offer any assistance you can... we are desperate to get this computer back up and running.

Which version of phoenix bios?
Which version of spacewalker mobo/chipset?

it is a vt868c chipset
spacewalker v3.0 mobo
Unsure of the phoenix bios rev number... do you have ways i can find out?

You need newer BIOS.
