Do HP printers have a built in test page like the displays in the stores so you can print without a computer hooked up? I thought I remember my old Lexmark being able to push and hold the paperfeed for a few seconds and it printed a test page.

Ok this printer uses a paralel cable, and I tried it on my daughters pavilion which it was packaged with, and no go, so must be faulty. Her puter has ME OS on it, with the HP drivers from the factory. Well thanks anyway, I think this one gets the boot

what that means is that if you don't use the ieee cable it won't work - it will stamp its feet and you will curse it.

ecp printer port - dma enabled - and use the drivers that came in the box -

spent a week cursing a canon two years ago - finally put in a second printer port card and separted a zip drive off the port - everything worked fine after that except you had to feed the printer lots of ink - thirsty bugger.

I took the stupid thing apart, figuring I had nothing to loose. The bar the print cartridges slide on had some tarnished spots on it, so I took it out cleaned it up with some emery cloth, put it back together and now it's working. I guess it was getting just enough drag to make it stop printing.
