Outdoors New computer problem

I have been having a problem with my pc. Here are the specs:

Gateway
Windows XP home
Intel 875P mobo
P4 3.0 GHZ 800 mhz fsb
2x256 MB dual channel ddr (400 Mhz)
Nvidia Geforce FX 5900 Ultra
Maxtor 160 GB serial ata hard drive
SB audigy 2

One night I was playing BF 1942 and shut the computer down when I was done. The next morning I go to start up my computer and it goes to the windows xp screen and loads it, and after it is done loading all I get is a black screen. So then I went in safe mode uninstalled the drivers for the graphics card and restarted and windows came up just fine. Then I went to Nvidia and loaded the new drivers and played UT 2003 and all the graphics in the game were messed up and while I was playing it shut down my computer and It did the same thing it did before, it would give me a black screen. So I then uninstalled the drivers in safe mode and then restarted. I then installed the drivers I got with gateway for the video card and after installation it said I needed to restart my computer. I restarted and still the black screen. I have no idea what the problem is and Gateway’s supports is terrible and the computer is only a few days old. I took it into Gateway service center earlier tonight. I want to know what you guys think is wrong with it.

Thanks for reading this long thread.

Gateway called back and said the problem was a faulty graphics card. (thats pretty bad when a 400 dollar card is faulty).
