Is this board any good?
I'm looking at this motherboard here: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...=AN35N%2DUltra
The price is INCREDIBLE on this board.... Right now I have a Gigabyte KT333 board and was looking to upgrade to an Nforce2 board. This thing seems like a STEAL with onboard sound, LAN, 400mhz FSB support...
Would an upgrade from what I have now make a difference?
Is Shuttle a pretty good brand for motherboards?

Yes, getting a new mobo can make a difference, but it also depends on what cpu and ram you use. Shuttle makes good stuff. They dont seem to have the celebrity status of Asus, but they have great boards.
EDIT: "what you pay for is what you get." I think Lite-On and Shuttle are 2 exceptions.

ahh...
Well, I'm using an XP1800 and PC2700 right now...
Just wanted a new motherboard for a CPU upgrade in the near future.
I've heard pretty decent things about Shuttle, just never had any first-hand experience with their products.

The nforce2mobo's work best with 333 fsb cpu's, thats what you'll want to shoot for(and maybe some faster ram too). In the mean time, you can do some fancy OC with that mobo.

Man... Decisions are so tough.
I'm trying to decide if I should get a new motherboard & processor right now...(XP2600 Barton & Shuttle AN35N)
I have $225 to spend, but I only have a 300w power supply and was wondering if it would be enough to power my new mobo & CPU.
I have been eyeballing a Thermaltake Pure Power 420Watt PS, but if I don't really need it, I won't get it.
I've been running my 300 watt Allied for quite a while and it's been great. Running my XP1800, KT333 board, CDRW, DVD, Floppy, 7200RPM HD, Geforce4 Ti4200, five 80mm fans and a fan controller with it.
I'm not sure if the new CPU and mobo will strain it too much...
Any thoughts? I know it's a lot to ponder... hehe

They are putting small power supplies in those sff machines nowadays
(small form factor)
Also, compgeeks has a few nforce2 boards...biostars..for similar prices.

thats not a bad board at all . i would just get the board and switch out your stuff to it . if you have a dlt3c xp1800 it is HIGHLY overclockable . so i would try your cpu first . get a good heatsink is all .
If you psu is running fine in that system it should run fine with a xp2500 . as for power supply here is my recomendation on a good low cost power supply Achieve 500w dual fan i think they are the shiznit and they are all i use at the moment . they are cheap and work VERY well .

My XP1800 is the OLD Palomino core... Doesn't like to overclock much.
But I saw those Achieve power supplies in another thread you posted the link to... They look pretty damn nice.
Is the Achieve fairly QUIET? Noise is a factor in this, as well as performance... I just don't want any jet-engines. |
