Anyone here know how to remove or block remote IPs?

Dear members,

If anyone could help, i'd be most grateful, as i'm completely at a loss at the moment.

I work on the net. in various topics, one being search engines, which are placed on my web sites.

One of the search engine companies of which I am an affiliate, has decided to ask members to conduct a PC test to determine whether or not they have an open proxy, which isn't allowed when searching, as people use it to cheat.

According to http://www.samir.ru/proxy/proxychecker/, my 'Proxy is Transparent', and I have a remote IP other than my IP address.

I also have 4 of nine ports open..?!

I e-mailed the site owner, who told me that I needed to contact my server, and ask them to help all of the ports that are open, and get rid of the remote IP, as this just wasn't allowed....

So I did, expaining the situation, and asking whether it could be to do with the 'Sygate Personal Firewall' I recently was advised to download to protect against the recent virus attacks that went round.

I had Norton Internert Security, which has a firewall already, at the time I downloaded Sygate, but this was supposed to be o.k.

NTL told me that there was nothing they could do, but that I should open my firewall, and do something in there- but what they couldn't say(!)

Now, I am more confused than I was in the beginning, an in dire need of some help - perhaps from someone who has encountered this problem, or knows how to close down ports, or remove remote IP addresses/ or block them?

Any advice would be a great help.

Thanks

Do you use any ad blocking software? If so, disable it and try the proxy test again.

Thanks, I will give this a go....

Well, I don't have any ad blockers enabled - the only one I have installed is the one that comes with Norton Internet Security, but that is disabled.

What I did notice, however, is that in Norton Internet Security, in my Firewall configuration settings, under the 'Program Control' tab, there is a program called.....'Norton Internet Security Proxy Server' which must come with N.I.S. 2003.

I tried switching the 'Internet access' setting from 'Automatic' to 'Block All', but it must be one of the major components with N.I.S., as this caused my internet connection to go down, so I put it back, and am not sure how to proceed.

If anyone has any further advice, or ideas on this, - i.e. how to detect where my remote IP is coming from, if not from Norton?, how to disable it? then pls post here.

Basically, how do I get the test result from the IP checker: http://www.samair.ru/proxy/proxychecker/ to go from 'Your Proxy is Tranparent' (and giving me a list of ports which are open), to go to 'Perfect Proxy or not loaded', and my ports to be closed?

Thanks

How do you access the internet? Is it Broadband? And you may want to clear the temporary intenet files and cookies before you run the next proxy test.
