Yummy (Adelphia speed)
Email from Adelphia.
"We value your business and understand that many of you have an increasing appetite for online content, email and all the benefits of our high-speed internet service. We were pleased to announce last week that we will be increasing the speeds available to our Power Link high-speed internet customers to up to 3 megabytes-per-second downloads and up to 256 kilobytes-per-second uploads. Your Power Link pricing will not change as a result of this service enhancement!"
right now my speed is (bandwidthplace.com)
Your raw speed was 1082131 bits per second which is the same as:
Communications
1.1 megabits per second
How communication devices are rated. Kilo means 1,000 and mega means 1,000,000. Examples include 56k modem and 10Mbit Ethernet
Storage
132.1 kilobytes per second
The way data is measured on your hard drive and how file sharing and FTP programs measure transfer speeds. Kilo is 1,024 and mega is 1,048,576.
1MB file download
7.8 seconds
The time it would take you to download a 1 megabyte file at this speed.
I will report back when/if I see some real speed increase....but the idea in itself is cool, lol.

Wow, if you could really get 3 MB/sec, that would pretty beat even OOL.
But 256 kB/sec upload? Wonder why so slow? Guess that would cut down on people setting up servers.

yep.
True about email, didnt think of that. Of course, my one or two emails a week dont need a lot of speed. I was thinking of gamers and all the file sharers etc. Then again I do a lot of ordering from comp websites, I guess thats uploading too.

The ammmount of data you are talking about John for buying something is a few 100K if that. would take you about 2 seconds to upload. think of hotmail (it shows sizes beside the e-mail) most lettters that are actual letters are no more then about 5K... and thats a LONG one. Your upload speed is about 30K a second. So no biggie there. 30K is also good enough to play online games assuming you have low latency. however... Serving files or games is out of the question if you want speed. BF1942 can eat a T1 for lunch quickly but overall, I doubt you will see a huge increase in surfing speed. I bet it will show up when you are downloading.

I can't say how much you'll notice the speed. I've had Cox for a couple years (John and I live about 2 hrs from each other) and I routinely get 2.2 mb download speeds as tested by one of the online speed testers.
The one thing you will be getting that I don't John is the 256mb upload speeds. Unfortunately I come nowhere close to that no matter no badly I want it. . . .
