Recovery Disk For IBM Laptop Thinkpad 600E

I have purchased a used laptop Thinkpad 600E. It has Windows 98 S/E for an operating system. I don't have the original CD for the system. I can get a restore disk from IBM for around $40. 00. Does anyone know of anywhere else these recovery disk can be obtained? I want it to replace lost files or drivers.
Is recovery the proper term? Thanks much

HI pdltfc,

Welcome to techimo!

Best place (cheapest) would be if someone here has one and will burn you a copy cheap.
Your next best choice I think will be Ebay if you are willing to go there or already have an account. Ebay search for 600 recovery disk here:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search...3&BasicSearch=

word of warning Ebay occasionally has scammers, so be careful, all 3 of the auctions I found have the same seller, " cuiinc" who has a feedback rating of over 2000, so you should be safe.

Short of those you might get lucky if you call all the local computer stores, and ask them if they might have a recovery disk that you might be able to get a copy of.

I wish you good luck in finding the disk.

Vern

If you already have 98SE, you just need to go to IBM's site and download drivers. You can use the 98SE disk for whatever files it needs for the OS.

The $40 isn't worth it, and neither really is the effort to get the original recovery disk.

Usually, those disks only contain special drivers for the hardware.

I would expect that the drivers are already included with new copies of the Windows OS (2000, XP, etc). Any drivers that aren't can likely be downloaded from IBMs website.

Thanks for your replies sounds better than $40. + . Is there a program that one can use to identify which drivers are needed.

Thanks again
