Kids Pulling info from old Compaq to New PC

I need to pull some info off an old Compaq with Win.98 over to a new pc with Win. XP. What's the easiest and cheapest way? The old pc does not have a nic to set up a crossover cable plus it's a compaq and has the original Win.98 is very uncooperative. I'm looking for the best and quickest way to pull the necessary data off the compaq to the XP machine.

Thanks!!!

Take the HDD out of the Compaq and put it in the XP machine.

My thoughts were the same, but not sure if that was the "EASIEST" way. Sounds like a plan...

you could use the windows xp network wizard, then at the end of the wizard, it asks you if you would like to make a disk to setup windows98 networking... that might be easier
