Win XP Pro Administrator
How can I prevent my 2 sons from downloading anything from the Internet.
I am the administrator on the computer and I have set up 2 user accounts for my sons. I want them to be able to log on to the Internet, but I don't want them to download anything without my approval. Can I use a password to download, if yes, how do I do it.
Thank you for your help.

You can disable downloading from group policys. However, that will only affect IE I think. So if they choose to have other ways of downloading, it's possible.

In my school, it is possible, you cannot download any *.zip and *.exe to prevent virii to getting into the school's network. I can only add to the assurance that it can be done. Sorry I can't help.

Generally with built in XP controls you can't limit what they download. You will have to go with a 3rd party solution.

Thanks

Sorry, it seems that it is disabled from within internet explorer.
Options->internet options->zones and from there set disabled to allow downloading. From group policy editor you can restrict access to those options so that they can't be changed by users.

I think this has to do with a combination of what muno says. You need to restrict things on the account (in school, we have VERY limited access) and then disable the downloading in IE.
On a side note, what's happening with the Email notification?

Keep in mind that "downloading anything from the Internet" is more than just IE (at least in my opinion).
What about kaza, ftp, DCC, newsgroups, etc. ?
