Outdoors XP log on trouble with Nt-Network

We run a Nt4 network with mainly Win 98 machines and 20 Xp machines, the network runs a SDSL broadband Internet.

The problem is that when we have a internet problem/dropout users with XP cannot log on correctly to the network using their XP machines, the machines just displays loading personal settings for 10 mins or so.

Thanks in advance from the Land Down Under

What server OS and type are you using? How fast is the network?

Is this an NT4 domain or workgroup?

We have a dedicated proxy server that provides access to the WWW.

Interesting point is that when the Internet crashes or the proxy servers locks (as did this morning) the normal network traffic also grinds to a halt. ie several users were using trying to use Xl when the proxy server lock/failed and the retreiving of files over the internal network ground to a halt as well???

Thanks

I don't know why the proxy would knock out your internal LAN. You may have more then one problem. How many clients, servers etc are on your LAN? Is it one or more subnets?
