There are a ton of these how-to's out there. Here are a few that I hope'll help. It doesn't look too hard. You just need a dremel and a fairly steady hand and a design in mind.

Not so much a how-to, but there's mine.

Muriatic acid gets used quite a bit for etching, according to a glass technician I know.

Always use chemicals very carefully, and learn how to neutralize and dispose it before purchasing it.

Hm

Weeeelll....Perhaps it's not "etching" but I think it looks awesome...I made a spiffy mouse pad with it...here's hows I goes about it...

Step 1: Think of your design, and print it on cardstock paper

Step 2: with double sided tape, tape the design in a few places of the plexi

Step 3: Using black tape or painters tape, outline the design

Step 4: Cover the rest of the plexi with tape/paper/whatever

Step 5: Remove design and sandblast plexi

I think it looks awesome, If can find decent pics of it (i spray painted the etched side :S) then I'll post them up! Good luck!

Me and Wicthypoo have been playing around with different mediums, and this is what we have learned:

Muratic acid works on glass, but not Plexi

A variable speed dremel is essential to etch plexi, and lots of practice with different bits/speeds

For sandblasting, a Paasche eraser for 80 bucks, and an 80 dollar Home Depot compressor produce very good results:

In the pic below, the "mountian scene" is at 60 PSI, the "Leaf" to the right is at 20 PSI, and the line that looks like snot is our first attempt with a Dremel"

Ya know, I re-read that first post several times, and I swear that it said 'glass' not plexi.... D'oh!
