Can you run 2 sound cards? also Vid card ??

Is it possable? reason i ask because im goin to run a 2 monitor set up( actually one will be a monoitor and the other a TV from a vid out card) and i was curious if one card could run the sound to the tv and the other for just the comp online crap.

Also on a side note, if i get a video card with video out, does that mean theres no sound goin out to it as well?

Also what are the compossite out ones? is that RCA connections?
is there a video card out there that has the cable tv cable connection?

It's easy to do two video cards in a computer, but I've never heard of using two sound cards. I don't think you can split the audio like you're planning.

If you get a video card with video out, I think you have to then run an audio cable from your sound card.

There are TV tuner cards with a cable in, but no card that has a cable out.

I'm not a pro but I'll tell you what I know. My computer is setup exaclty how yours is. I use a 19" monitor for computer stuff, the TV is right next to my computer and s-video is always hooked up. I have 2 sound devices (integrated crap and Sound Blaster 5.1). The integrated crap is hooked up to the TV speakers and the Sound Blaster is hooked up to headphones.

Video out on the video card does not send sound signals.
Yes composite are those RCA ones.
No normal video card has a cable TV connection. I think ATI All In Wonder cards have those but those cards are just insanely expensive.
Now about the sound thing. I know you can switch between the different sound cards but I don't think you can use both at the same time.

Switching between sound cards is easy, just go to control panel then sound.

It's probably possible but I personaly can't do it. One most likely needs third party software.

With a quick Google search, it appears that it is possible to do and that lots of Linux folks have tackled this. I can not find how it is done, but it appears that in Windows, you just need to install both sets of drivers. I'd think that in itself would be a nightmare considering the instability that has been historically associated with sound cards. From the Google search, it appears that the two cards will function ok in XP and that it is hit-or-miss as to which applications will use what card. Some work with both, some only work with one.

I remember reading a while ago that you can do it. I remember a little app that you used for mixing music in the same whay as a DJ did, this app said that is required 2 soundcards to function correctly.

though it sounds like a phun and tedious experiment, I would just splice your output!

Some video cards do have audio jumped through them so you can run audio in and/or out of them, but most do not, even many of the VIVO cards do not have this capability. But look around, as some do.
