dvd plays with lot of hiccups help plzzz

hi there i cannot play dvds properly on my comp i changed the firmare and it got worse now can rip and write dvd but cannot play them and the main use of watching dvd movies on my comp is not there,help me out here what can be the cause i have tried everything from formating and installing win xp again here are my comp specks.
what shud i do man cause to watch a dvd it takes me 12 hrs to rip into divx and then can i watch it if the encoding is gud.its like i am on a pentium 286 hahaha,help me out here plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

My first thought would be to check to see if you have the drivers properly installed for your mobo. Chances are that that is ok, but I would take a look at the Device Manager to see if there are any problems there.

Next I would check to see how many programs are running in the background. Do a CTRL/ALT/DELETE and see what processes and programs are running.

Kill things like realplayer and other such things that show up in the system tray.

it plays all dvds but with lot of hiccups the audio is still distorted and the screeen stops and plays ,also my friend;s got pentium 2 and it runs fine dunno whats is the problem with mine maybe have to uptade the bios or somethign,need sombodys expert help on this A.S.A.P
