SN41G2 CPU OVERTEMP / Processor problems

hi i've recently bought the following..

SN412G2B
athlon Barton XP2500+ 333 fsb
Adata 256MB DDR PC3200 CAS 2.5

on boot up the machine says its a 1100mhz athlon and when i try to set the FSB up to 166mhz the OVERTEMP light kicks in and the machine shuts itself down. When I tried to rest the settings to normal its still happening and now I just shutsdown everytime.

Now I know that you need to have PC2700 to get the barton to run but I would have thought that PC3200 would have allowed for some leeway there. Also I'm unsure as to why after the CMOS has been changed that its still overtemping.

any ideas anyone had any similar problems or got any suggestions. I've not had a problem like this before...

cheers

P.

Pootle, I have nearly the exact system configuration except for the fact I
have 2 256MB sticks of PC2700 DDR. I was operating the shuttle minipc just
fine with an old Thunderbird 900 MHz inside (FSB set to 100 MHz) until I
recently purchased the Barton 2500+. When I inserted it, regardless of
whether I clear the CMOS either by jumper or by powering up with INSERT key depressed and loading optimized defaults from BIOS or both, I too observe that the system shuts down just before starting windows. One time, I managed to get into windows safe mode when I loaded fail-safe defaults in the BIOS but not anymore.

Even more troubling, when I place the 900 MHz processor back in, the
problem persists. Now I broke the darn thing. I get the feeling we would
have had more luck with the SN45G.

Have you heard anything or fixed your problem since your original post in
October?
