System Memory.

Hey guys,

Right now I've got 512MB (2x256MB) Dual Channel TwinX (200MHz) by Corsair in my NForce2 rig.

I'd like to upgrade to 1GB, for Half Life 2, etc...

Normally I would just buy a 512 module. But I was think of just getting a new matched pair of 512MB modules to get better performance.

Question 1: Does this seem reasonable? I'd like to keep whatever performance I do get from Dual Channel on the NForce2 board.

Question 2: I was thinking of changing to Geil Memory. It is slightly less expensive than going the Corsair route, and I really don't overclock my memory at all. Does this seem okay? Anyone out there have Geil memory?

Thanks.

Geil is supposed to make good mem at reasonable prices.

Woodbutcher--
Thanks.

shawshank62--
Thanks. I really like to hear people personal experiences...

dafanman--
Heh- before I posted I did just Google it, and I read that whole (well, the Geil part-- because it is long) article... Nice read.

I think I will surf over to Newegg.com and put up an order...

Check later in the week in the seller's area for my present memory to be up.

hi, since this is about system memory i might as well post my question here.

i just installed aida32 and run a report on all pages (everything that aida32 can found on my rig). as i was scrolling thru the report, i noticed something on my system ram. this is what i got:

Memory Module Properties:
Serial Number None
Module Size 256 MB (1 rows, 4 banks)
Module Type Unbuffered
Memory Type DDR SDRAM
Memory Speed PC2700 (166 MHz)
Module Width 64 bit
Module Voltage SSTL 2.5
Error Detection Method None
Refresh Rate Reduced (7.8 us), Self-Refresh
Highest CAS Latency 2.5 (6.0 ns @ 166 MHz)
2nd Highest CAS Latency 2.0 (7.5 ns @ 133 MHz)

this is only a generic DDR ram (STAR RAM). on the memory speed, it tells that i got "pc2700 (166MHz)". i was shocked because what i bought was a 256 DDR 333 type of ram.

my question is, how fast is a 333 when you run aida32? did the vendor mislead me by putting a 333 sticker on my ram?

thanks
