Flickering Monitor

I have my monitor set at 1024 x 768, and every time I go to play Battlefield 1942 the monitor makes a clicking sound, and sometimes flickers. Its tough to explain but horizontal lines go across the screen and they move vertical. The monitor looks like its flashing and the picture is all distorted, but when I click the monitor off then back on it goes away. Any idea what that can be? Video card maybe? I have a 9100 that I'm overclocking, so I dunno.

Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

Just a guess, but it may have something to do with your refresh rates...what do you have it set at right now?

Hi Bingo,
The "clicking" you hear is the monitor changing its resolution or refresh rate(as martoch said) to the one used in Bf 1942, go into the game and select video settings and change them to a setting that your monitor can use you should see a setting that says 1024x768 by 32 bits(or 16) try that first(the one that most matches your desktop settings), exit then start up the game again. It should start up without any more monitor resets(the clicking sound you hear inside your monitor) .

Hmm, the monitor is at 60Hz, but the graphics card is at 75Hz..maybe thats the problem? And in the game its at 32 bits, which is the same I have the monitor set to.
I tried changing the monitor to 75Hz, and it threw my settings all outta whack. Is that normal?

um, what did it do??

If it resized your desktop, the monitor isnt able to run that high a refresh rate at that resolution. You might be able to run at 800x600 at 70/72/75hz but not 1024x768, did you try to reduce the settings from 32bit(high) color to16bit(medium color) first?

You should have been able to just go to 75 hz if the monitor is capable. You could try to run it a 70hz and it might be ok. btw, if the graphics card is running at 75hz then the monitor will be running at 75hz.

If your monitor isnt able to run at 75hz(or 70) you need to reset the monitor back to 60 and set the game settings to 60 hz, which is too bad, because to play well you really need more than 60 to be able to play for longer than 30 minutes or so without eye strain.
