Connected 4 computers to 1 cable modem HELP

hello! Heres the deal I got cable modem on downstairs cpu wwith cable coming out onto upstairs cpu MY CPU, connected right into ethernet. The cpu upstairs MY CPU without the modem works good but sometimes when searching the screen goes blank. Under internet options I see theres no connection type set up. Another cpu in my house also has the direct cable hook up to ethernet..but since roommate have a laptop I put in a modem to also hook that up. All while being charged one for the mnth by cable...do u recommend that I get a modem for MY CPU or this connection is fine.

Why don't you use a cable router? Only need one modem.

i agree... router would be ten times better. Less work to keep everybody online as well... Good for multiplayer LAN games as well. Oh yeah makes it easy to share files and printers too.
