hardware to burn DVDs?

Hi all,

I've looked at some other posts around here and just want to make sure...

If I got this TV card:

TV LEADTEK WINFAST "DELUXE" TV2000XP TV/FM MULTIMEDIA CARD

and this DVD burner:

PIONEER INTERNAL ATAPI DVD-RECORDABLE DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW MODEL DVR-A06USPK4

and hooked up to my VCR, could I transfer my video tapes to DVDs?

Also, how much hard drive space would I need to transfer a tape to a DVD?

The Pioneer drive comes with burning software, so I think I would be set. Is there anything that I am missing?

Thanks in advance for helping little ol' nerdgirl.
-ng

I've got no experience in this... But i think this is how it would work:

1. You need to "capture" the video to your harddisk, so using your TV card and the software provided, you should be able to record the picture comming from your VCR.
2. Once captured, using the burning software that came with the dvd recorder you should then be able to create a DVD from the video files you "capture" above...

The amount of space you would need on your harddisk will depend on the quality you capture the video at, and also the compression you use. Generalling the higher the compression the lower the picture quality. Your TV card may support realtime hardware MPEG1 or MPEG2 encoding, MPEG2 being the better quality compression, but file size will also be bigger.

Generally speaking, with mpeg1 compression generally 1minute of video = 10MB. I'm not sure about mpeg2, but it would be more than 10MB for sure.

Hopefully this has helped alittle...
