How to clear all network settings?

I sold a cow today that had been running on my network. (XP pro) The people are now trying to get it connected through their hub. They do this from the modem to the hub and then to all computers. I had my computer to a switch and then to the other computers so I could have a network. So, if they reset the network settings and do the new connection settings, it just may fix the problem. (right?)

How do you do this?

btw, they had the old computer hooked up to the same port and all, so I know the hub is not the problem.

not sure how you mean reset the network settings

did you have DHCP on your network?

how do they have there network setup? are they using static ips or DHCP in there lan?

have then do an ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew in the command prompt

Yeah, GZ3, I had them do that. the /release and /renew.

I mean, undo the settings I had in there. Like to start fresh, w/ no shared drives or folders or anything.

I have no idea on the dhcp and all that... I just know that the ip is assigned automatically.

I had this same problem a few weeks ago and figured it out myself. It was something simple, but I didn't take my ginseng this morning so I can't remember

What do you mean "modem to the hub, to all computers"? You can't share the modem connection through a hub. Just the pc's.

Running the networking wizard from control panel will reset everything.

I mean exactly what I said. And yes, you can. It's being done on the setup in question.

was their old computer xp also? If it is a w98 network they probably need to change the name of the workgroup on the xp box from "mshome" to "workgroup"

(just guessing at the issue)

And a hub and a switch are pretty much the exact same thing as far as networking goes..the switch makes the ports seperate etc..but the switch does all that internally by itself.

Well, you right click the local area network connection. See the list of protocols/clients installed are below (usually there's 'client for microsoft networks', 'file and printer sharing' and 'tcp/ip protocol'. Click tcp/ip, click remove, click yes yes yes yes yes yes. Reboot, reinstall the stack.
