You should be able to push a 2.8 past 3Ghz with ease, maybe even 3.2Ghz Your results may vary, depending on cooling and your particular chip, so try it out and see. Just remember to do things slowly, and to check for stability problems between each OC. Use Prime95 or a looping 3DMark system to stress your proc.

As for your setup, it looks good. Asus is a reliable vendor and I've had zero problems with my A7N8X Deluxe Athlon rig. It's stood up to much abuse, with an OC'd video card and a 2500+ (333Mhz FSB) running as a 3200+ and a 400Mhz FSB. Use high-quality RAM, such as Corsair, GeIl, Mushkin, or Crucial to ensure reliability.

Hope this helps!

These boards are almost alike performancewise (overclocked)---specific hardware needs (re: 4 channel RAID with the Max 3) or the dollar spent will be key, the P4P800 comes in cheapest...

Abit IS7
Asus P4P800
Abit Max 3
Asus P4C800-E

Get the BEST 4k mem from one of these manufacturers:
OCZ
A-Data
Twin-mos

Swiftech MCX 4000 heatsink with an adaptor mounted 120 mm dual blade DELTA if you are serious...

Thank you guys !

king, yes Id like to be serious and push it higher, just for fun really, havent done this in a while
actually my last OC was a p166mmx running at around 200, cant remember exact numbers anymore so Im really outdated

couple questions, I want the P4C800-E but was looking at the P4P800 as well and since its newer I was wondering if its better ?

4K mem ? what you mean ?

Ive heard of the MCX 4000, I was considering it along with the SLK-900 but Im not too comfortable with hanging such a heavy HSF on my board, is there a lighter solution for heavy OCing ?

Thank you
Dan

i've got the slk947u on my 2600+ barton (11x200). it is heavy but with the heatsink firmly attached to the motherboard itself i dont think it'll budge any. course this mcx 2000 sounds pretty good if you can use a 120mm fan on it (slk900 can only take up to 92mm). it wont be good though if the fan extends over the side of the heatsink as this causes cooling problems.

He means PC4000, look for it when shopping for DDR ram.

i just built a pc the other day based on the 2.8p4c on the asus p4c800-e motherboard. i wanted the system to overclock like crazy so i had the guy buy some ddr500 (pc4000) hyperx ram by kingston. the result?

i was easily able to hit 250fsb which translated to a 1ghz fsb (quad) and a frequency clock of 3.5ghz. i decided to ease off though and run at 3.4 at 242 fsb.

i torture tested the system and it passed 3 hours worth of prime95 testing and several 3dmark runs.

temperatures maxxed at 50-52c... at load... which is very good.

That's a sweet overclock. What benchmarks do you get?
