How do I get the wheel to work on my mouse in Linux?

How do I get the wheel to work on my mouse in Linux?

I am running Mandrake Linux 9.0 and I have a Microsoft wheelmouse, how do I configure the mouse so that I can use the wheel to scroll up and down in webpages?

During the intial install I chose PS2 Standard for mouse.

Here is a pic of the type of mouse I have:

I'm not a Mandrake man but I'm guessing you could go into 'Drake's control panel and tell it you're using a three button wheel mouse. Restart your X Server and you're done.

Or you could make sure this is what your /etx/X11/XF86Config looks like:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no"
EndSection

I would check the configuration of the mouse in the 'control panel' of Mandrake since it can have been configured wrong. That mouse should work flawlessly with Mandrake with no problems at all. I thinks its a matter of configuration.

Try this:

1) Open Mandrake Control Center

2) Click on hardware

3) Click on mouse

4) Choose Generic PS2 Wheel mouse

My /etc/X11/XF86Config-4's pointer section looks like this:
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Mouse1"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
Xeroid's suggestion should work.

hmmm I fell asleep at my computer last night lol. Thanks for all the replies. I was messing around with the configuration and messed something up so I just did another clean install. This time I chose Generic PS2 wheel mouse during the installation and it is working now.

I am sure I will have more questions for you guys soon. I am still a newbie when it comes to Linux, but I have been doing a lot of reading at the Mandrake website. I am currently trying to learn the command line as it is a lot different than a Windows command line.

Will have more questions for you soon. Thanks again for all the replies.
