Kids Outlook Express and DSL troubles

So basically here's what's going on. A friend of mine just got DSL at his house and he can't check his POP3 e-mail account when connected to the DSL. He has an AT&T e-mail address from his dial up connection. His pop3 e-mail is something like "postoffice.worldnet.att.net". However if he connects with his Dial-up connection it will work just fine and check the account.

Obviously the settings in Outlook Express are working correctly because he can check the mail with the dial-up account, but whenever we try to connect with the DSL it won't check his account but the internet and everthing else works at high speed.

Now here is the weird thing. I tried setting up one of my POP3 accounts in his outlook program to see if it would check mine ok. And everything works fine when checking my POP3 accounts (not at&t - btw). So basically he can't check his at&t pop3 account on DSL, but everyone else can check theirs, and he can surf the net at high speed. The DSL is configured correctly of course.

Anyone have any ideas I can have him try? We're stumped!

Gary

Its just a setting for the pop3 server most likely. The same thing happened when I went to cable internet from dial up. I was using juno email, which has its own software etc...and I tried to just bring the settings over to outlook express but it didnt work...

actually I cant remember if I couldnt send or receive...I think I couldnt send....anyway...my pop3 setting stayed at pop.juno.com and I just changed the smtp to "mail". And it works fine now.

Another time I was onsite at a job and the lady went from dialup to cable....she was already using outlook express...but it was pretty much the same story...I called the local dialup company and they had me change the pop3 and/or smtp settings..I cant remember exactly what we changed them to though.

for kicks..try "mail" or "pop.mail.com"

If all else fails..a quik call to the ISP will fix it in a jiffy.

Thanks John, I'll have him try that. Hopefully it will be that easy.

Update: Got it to work - there were different pop3 settings for the High speed users - who would have thought that. Thanks for the tip, I'll remember that from now on.
