Kids Batch files in Windows

I would like to place a batch file into the shut down process on a Windows PC.

Any thoughts on how to do this so that the batch file will run every time the PC is shut down?

Thanks in advance. Your help is appreciated.

isn't that:

Start, Programs, Shutdown Folder:

right click and add shortcut... to batch file.

on a windoze PC? windoze PC's hang/shutdown/lockup, shutdown iffey.

what does your BATCH file do, EXACTLY? like cut-n-paste.
what does your BATCH file do, if you can get to run everytime "Windows PC" starts? or you have a batch file for that?

What's your OS?

I'm pretty sure you can set XP Pro to run scripts on shutdown using the Group Policy Editor. I think it's possible to get Win2k Pro to do the same as well.

Ya I my windows *never* shuts down properly. The only time it does "shut down" is when it crashes and you have to reboot. Also what windows are you running ?

hey pedantic might want to brush up on your "windoze" before you try and post some help...ie: There is no "shutdown folder"

moving on...

Scott's tip should work. another solution possibly would add a line in the batch to shut down the computer. then anytime you want to shut down the computer, just run the batch file. they may not be what you want though.

But, there, is a startup?

the group policy thing:

won't, will not work if PC hangs, period.

Scott Tiger is correct, Using the Group Policy Editor will work.

Doesn't matter what Windows OS you are running, just do the following:

From a run window, type in: gpedit.msc

Under... Computer Configuration | Windows Settings | Scripts (Startup/Shutdown) ... you will find a place to add batch files for when windows shuts down or starts up.

Hope this helps

Cant do that in W98se, nor in WinME I suspsect.

And back in Windows NT days I think it would have been editing using "system policy editor"..there was no 'group policy" back then to my knowledge.

I am thinking "gpedit.msc" is a W2k, XP thingy

for Win95/98 it is the following situation, from this site http://www.zisman.ca/poledit/

"By default, Windows 95/98 is not a secure environment. Users can log on without passwords, can mess with all sorts of system settings, and can have access to all the programs and data within reach.
Microsoft includes a powerful tool to help limit user access—the System Policy Editor, Poledit for short. Poledit is not installed as part of any Win95/98 setups, but is included on the Windows 95 and 98 CDs.

On the Win95 CD, look in the D:\Admin\Apptools\Poledit folder (where D: is the drive letter for your CD drive).

On the Win98 CD, look in the D:\Tools\Reskit\Netadmin\Poledit folder. "
