Serious Dell DVD+RW PowerDVD issue (wont install)

check this mess out.

I bought two of these drives a while back http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...=&refurbished=

They are actually NEC 1100a's.

So I finally get around to installing one to check it out etc.

I install the Roxio software...cool, no problem.

I install the SonicDVD stuff..cool, no problem.

I ATTEMPT to install the PowerDVD 4.0...and...uncool..problem.

It errors out and tells me...

'this software can ONLY be installed on a Dell system"!!!!!

Hmm, whats up with this? Is there a way around this mess?

I already tried autorun and also going into the cd and trying "setup"...I glanced at the text config files but I dont see anything conspicous that I might try to change, lol.

Any ideas??

Thanks, JP

What about a firmware upgrade? I think I have one downloaded already.

hrm thats weird, i have only seen that when you buy it with a computer. and try to install it on another computer. Maybe you should call up Dell and ask what the deal is. Because that is lame

Tell me about it...I went back to the dell site to look and see if I see anything there indicating it ONLY works with Dell comps...of course it says its "for" Dimension 4500 etc etc.

I kind of got sidetracked reading a longgggg thread in a forum where they were trying to flash an 1100 into a dual format 1300, lol.

The drive DID come with the drive rails bolted on..so maybe they really mean it to go into a dell.

Of course, I am sure I have power DVD laying around somewhere...but I bought this drive TO SELL! lol.

JP

I am hoping someone else who bought this from Dell will notice this thread and chime in.

Anyone else run across this? What if I copied the cd to a folder..is there then probably some sort of config file on the cd that I could delete or edit..there are a few config type files there. There are some .bin .iss .inx .hdr .sim files.

Also a custom.txt file with these entries
