i'm having problems with my laptop. it is a compaq presario 1200 series. it shuts itself off all the time. it just started doing it the past month or two. at first it wasn't too bad, but the other day it did it like 5 times in a row. i don't know what's wrong with it. it's really frustrating b/c i'm a college student and it shuts itself off when i'm in the middle of typing papers or doing homework. i don't know if like the battery needs replaced or if something is wrong with the power cord or what. is there anyway that i can check to find out what the problem is?
it doesn't say anything before it shuts down, it just turns off. it's really weird because i can't predict when it's going to shut off or anything. like i'll be sitting there typing and all the sudden it just turns off.
now when i put the mouse over the power cord icon thing it says 90% remaining (charging) and it's been less than 5 minutes since i posted the last reply
Hmm. If it continues to go down despite being plugged in, I'd say you have a bad battery. It won't hold a charge or even charge when plugged in. A fully charged battery should last 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

It could also be a bad power cord connection. Or a bad cord. You might want to run it by CompUSA or someplace like that and see if they can tell you anything. Or does your school have a help desk you can take it to? My point being that you should identify the cause before you invest in a new battery you may not need.
